MOD Eskmeals Range is located in Cumbria, in the northwest of England. The Range specialises in large calibre ammunition systems and conducts proof, range and accuracy trials, as well as hard target trials. The five firing locations on site enable over-land equipment proving for short range (up to 1km) and over-sea for long ranges (up to 49km).
MOD Eskmeals can accommodate trials within its air danger areas of up to 80,000 ft with NOTAM action.
The Range has an engineering facility with a workshop, a customer business suite and an ammunition compound for explosive and inert storage. It also offers design services, tracking doppler radar, and photography and high speed video services. It also has facilities to measure velocity, internal and external pressure, spin rate, strain, moment of inertia, centre of gravity, target strike and fragmentation.

Exit motorway M6 at Junction 36. At end of slip road take A591 sign-posted Kendal (dual carriageway). Take 1st left exit (approx 3 miles). At roundabout, turn left onto A590 (signposted Barrow-in-Furness). Remain on A590 for 15 miles, watch for the sign A5092 (sign-posted Workington). Turn right. Follow the A5092 (the A5092 becomes A595 at Grizebeck village). After 16 miles (ignoring the left hand turn to Millom) you will approach a ‘give way’ sign at a T junction with the A5093. Immediately in front of you will be the ‘Valley End Garage’. Turn right; after 4 miles you will reach Bootle village. Proceed through the village and take the left turn immediately before the church (sign-posted Beach). Following the narrow road will take you to Bottle railway station. Cross the railway and bear right. Follow the road for 1 mile. You will arrive at the beach. Turn right and enter the Eskmeals area. The main entrance to MOD Eskmeals is about 1 mile.
