Aerospace Design and Modification Embodiment

The LTPA provides an integrated aerospace design and installation service capable of developing and embodying complex modifications to aircraft. The LTPA Design and Installation Teams are experienced in delivering a wide array of modifications to the full range of aircraft classes, including fast jets and unmanned aerial vehicles.

Through the LTPA, customers have access to QinetiQ’s team of Mechanical and Electrical Designers, Aircraft Structures Engineers and Systems Integration Specialists. Completed designs are issued with a Design Certificate via the UK MOD’s Design Approved Organisation Scheme (DAOS), and customers who require solutions approved to civilian standards can benefit from QinetiQ’s relationship with several leading EASA Part-21 organisations.

The Flight Test Instrumentation (FTI) Team designs and builds bespoke instrumentation systems to underpin the assessment of aircraft and their systems, and equip LTPA aircraft to deliver Empire Test Pilots’ School (ETPS) training. Instrumentation systems provide signal conditioning, data processing and recording, and image systems for motion and still image capture. The LTPA’s FTI team act as system integrators, developing solutions that employ custom electronics designed by QinetiQ’s electronics development team and commercially available equipment. This team is continually developing instrumentation to exploit the next generation of sensor and computing technology.

The data systems group downloads and processes FTI and Flight Data and Cockpit Voice Recorder information and formats data as required by customers. It uses QinetiQ’s own Graphical Data Analysis System (GDAS) software which allows for engineers to perform post flight analysis via a user focused interface. This group is also capable of recovering difficult to extract data from aircraft recorders in support of air incident investigation.
