Release to Service Recommendations

MOD operates rigorous safety and airworthiness protocols to ensure aircraft are operated with acceptable levels of risk. A key element of this is the Release to Service (RTS) process. Through the LTPA, we support MOD by providing RTS recommendations – we have worked on the vast majority of UK military aircraft in service for the past 50 years.

By specifying the limitations within which the air crew and aircraft can operate, we give our clients confidence in the safety of their equipment, knowledge of where the risks lie, and information on how to extract the best functionality in a safe way.

We work in a highly integrated way with both our MOD customers and the manufacturer of the equipment under test. Much of the work is delivered as a combined test team, which reduces risk and improves communications. The inclusion of frontline pilots with extensive experience ensures that the recommendations are relevant to operational use.

Our recommendations are based on a combination of many years of practical experience, supplemented by activities ranging from desk-top assessment to full-scale practical flight test.

Our service covers the entire range of aircraft and aircraft systems:

  • avionics software
  • hardware
  • weapons
  • mission systems equipment

We can also manage RTS documentation on behalf of MOD.
