Test & Evaluation and Training Capabilities
MOD’s Test & Evaluation (T&E) Strategy defines the vision for its T&E and training capability as: “Cost-effective accurate assessment of military capability through-life”, which is what the LTPA strives to deliver. The capabilities provided under the LTPA are listed below. For the purposes of this site, we define capabilities as T&E and Training Services provided under the LTPA contract.
In the air, the LTPA enables us provide MOD with the ability to carry out T&E and training for air platforms and their systems, weapons and operators. This includes the conduct of live firing of weapons systems, aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicle flight testing, target services, safety management, pilot training, aircraft modifications, simulated environments, drop tests, as well as operations, countermeasures and navigation system testing.
On land we offer proof, T&E and disposal of munitions, weapons systems and ordnance. This service includes static and dynamic environmental testing, safe and reliable munitions disposal, static and dynamic firing, and armour plating testing. This testing can be for range and accuracy determination, performance, proof, development, safety and acceptance testing.
At sea we provide MOD with the ability to carry out T&E of marine platforms. This includes conducting torpedo and weapons tests, providing acoustic and electromagnetic signatures, compass calibration and taking radar cross-section measurements.
The LTPA enables us to test and calibrate weapons and weapons systems for all military platforms. This includes range and accuracy determination, performance, proof, development, safety and acceptance testing as well as trials design, results collection and analysis.
The LTPA provides the air, sea and land space for operational training exercises for all three military services. We also offer specific training services for military platforms, e.g. managing platform signature training, and training for test pilots and flight test engineers.
Defence Simulation Centre
The pDSC will provide the MOD with a single, physical, point of focus for delivery of simulation services to enable the recognition of savings across all equipment programmes in a timely and efficient manner.
Defence Evaluation Advisor Service
The Defence Evaluation Advisor (DEA) service is a centrally funded service offered under the Long Term Partnering Agreement to all parts of the MOD and provides independent and unbiased advice and support on the development of Integrated Test Evaluation and Acceptance (ITEA) plans.
